Sept. 22, 2003, Kaua'i Community College |
Nathan Kalama is presenting me with the first prize in the Open Category for the song I Love You Dear. The prize was a check and a wooden bowl which I got to keep for a year - until the next contest when it was passed on to the next winner - who turned out to be me. |
Performance - the song was sung by Manulele Dudoit with guitar by Mike Smith. |

Rehearsal - Mike warms up - after taking this picture I opened the back of the camera to see if there was any film in it - it turned out there was and these interesting colors were the result. |

First Prize, Open Category, 2004 Kaua'i Composers Contest - Beautiful Child
Sept. 20, 2004, Radisson Hotel (now Aloha Beach Resort) |
Nathan Kalama (and unknown person) are presenting me with first prize in the Open Category for the song Beautiful Soul. I got to keep the wooden bowl for another year. |
Kekai Chock is on guitar, Sylvia Partridge on ukulele, Koko Kaneali'i on bass, Manulele Dudoit is singing and Steve Dubey is on harmonica. This was my first performance of this sort and I absolutely loved it. |
First Rehearsal
Manulele and Kekai and I met in Lydgate Park and went over the song. |
Second Rehearsal
Everybody gathered at Smith's Marina for this rehearsal. It was a public place and we had an audience of people who were arriving and departing on boat trips up and down the Wailua River - one of them took this picture with my camera. People loved the song and we got some applause. |
